Year for Priests 2009-2010
Pope
Benedict XVI has declared a “Year for Priests” beginning with the Solemnity
of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on June 19, 2009. The year will conclude
in Rome with an international gathering of priests with the Holy Father on
June 19, 2010. With the
announcement of this Year for Priests, the Pope has declared
St.
John Vianney (known as the Curé of Ars) the Universal Patron of Priests
on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of his death. Please pray for our priests that they might always be faithful to their
sacred calling.
Msgr. Mike in the Catholic
Virginian
In case you missed it, our very own Msgr. Mike wrote an article
about the "Year for Priests" which was featured in
the December 28, 2009 issue of the Catholic Virginian.
Click here to read the article.
Please keep Deacon Gene in your prayers.
He
has left us, but not in spirit. Your prayers
are helpful and
appreciated by Gene and
his family.

Events & Announcements
Soup Suppers
Lenten soup suppers began on Wednesday, Feb. 24. If you
would like to help, please call Katharine in the office.
We need volunteers in order to make this happen! This year
opportunities for Lenten Learning Experiences will be offered
separate from the Soup Suppers, which will be a chance for
parishioners to gather in prayer and fellowship while sharing a
simple meal of soup and bread.

Renaissance Revisited
Information regarding phase II of the building campaign,
also know as "Renaissance Revisited", will now be posted to the
Building
Campaign page. Check there to read the October
newsletter as well as news on the building campaign.
Preventing the H1N1 Virus
The following liturgy changes have been put in place
to try to prevent the spread of the H1N1 (or swine flu) virus.
Thank you for your cooperation.
-
Open hands, instead of joined hands for the Lord's
Prayer.
-
Quiet verbal exchange of Christ's Peace with smiles,
winks, bows of the head instead of handshakes (optional).
-
All Eucharistic Ministers and Clergy will sanitize their
hands after sign of peace, before distribution of Communion. The
sanitization procedures for Eucharistic Ministers are located on the
Liturgical Ministry page.

St. Augustine's Prayer
God of our life, there are days when the burdens we carry chafe our
shoulders and weigh us down; when the road seems dreary and endless, the
skies gray and threatening; when our lives have no music in them, and
our hearts are lonely, and our souls have lost their courage.
Flood the path with light, turn our eyes to where the skies are full of
promise; turn our hearts to brave music; give us the sense of
comradeship with heroes and saints of every age; and so quicken our
spirits that we may be able to encourage the souls of all who journey
with us on the road of life to your honor and glory. |
