Year for Priests 2009-2010
Pope
Benedict XVI has declared a “Year for Priests” beginning with the Solemnity
of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on June 19, 2009. The year will conclude
in Rome with an international gathering of priests with the Holy Father on
June 19, 2010. With the
announcement of this Year for Priests, the Pope has declared
St.
John Vianney (known as the Curé of Ars) the Universal Patron of Priests
on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of his death.
Please pray for our priests that they might always be faithful to their
sacred calling.

Events & Announcements
L.I.F.E. Reminder
This month's L.I.F.E. session will be held next Sunday, July 12, from
10:00am to Noon.
Parish Picnic News
The date for the annual parish picnic is fast approaching. It
will be held on Sunday, August 30th, after the 11:00am Mass. The
planning committee is hard at work to make this an enlightening
experience filled with good food, fun, and fellowship.
Like last year, the Hispanic community is providing the food
services and is planning a delicious menu. Tickets will go
on sale the four weekends prior to August 30th, with a limited
number of tickets to be available at the door. We need
volunteers to make this year’s event a success, so please
consider giving some of your time and talents. This is one
of the few events during the year where we can enjoy the
fellowship of all parishioners at one setting - a truly great
event for our parish. More details will be announced as we
move forward to August 30th, so stay tuned.
Food Pantry Update &
Request
Gift cards to local area grocery stores in the amount of $5.00
are desperately needed at this time. Each week our parish
food pantry serves from 10 to 20 families per week to help meet
their food needs. Even at $5.00 each, the cost for gift
cards can be a significant expense to our parish. Please
consider purchasing some of these cards the next time you shop
for food. You may drop them in the collection basket, in
the poor box on the grocery cart, or at the office. Through your
generosity, at this time we have an abundance of canned
vegetables, cereal, peanut butter and tuna. Items that are
needed are small bottles of laundry detergent, toilet paper,
shampoo, canned fruit, cooking oil, hamburger helper, jelly,
instant potatoes, & mayonnaise. Thank you for your
generosity!

St. Augustine's Prayer
God of our life, there are days when the burdens we carry chafe our
shoulders and weigh us down; when the road seems dreary and endless, the
skies gray and threatening; when our lives have no music in them, and
our hearts are lonely, and our souls have lost their courage.
Flood the path with light, turn our eyes to where the skies are full of
promise; turn our hearts to brave music; give us the sense of
comradeship with heroes and saints of every age; and so quicken our
spirits that we may be able to encourage the souls of all who journey
with us on the road of life to your honor and glory. |
